Every so often I come across a book I know I’ll never forget and A Light On The Hill is one of them. I’ve been a fan of this author for quite some time, but I’d say this is my favorite of hers yet. With the Biblical Cities of Refuge as the perfect backdrop, this tale swept me away with its rich history and heartfelt theme of redemption.

Reading this book created quite an emotional tug-of-war in my heart. There are some heartbreaking events that happen, but there is beauty in the ashes. The love of God – and the hand of God – is present in their lives from beginning to end. The characters have some hard lessons to learn, but their journey becomes our own.

Once I started this book, I could not put it down. I kept on turning the pages as the late night turned into early morning. In my head, I raced with Moriyah to safety and longed to see her find healing and freedom. I could not stop reading until I’d reached the end. I had to know what happened to her. To all of them. I’m still thinking about their story days after reaching The End. I keep reliving so many scenes in my head. There is much to savor in the conversations and events that transpire.

It’s not a romance, but there is a love story woven in that took my breath away. I already want to re-read their story over. πŸ™‚

I encourage all of you to read this book. It draws characters from the previous series, but stands strongly on its own too. With a message of healing and trusting God with the unknown, A Light on the Hill is a book you won’t want to miss. It’s one of my favorites of 2018.

I received a free copy from the publisher. No review, positive or otherwise, was requiredβ€”all opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Seven years ago, Moriyah was taken captive in Jericho and branded with the mark of the Canaanite gods. Now the Israelites are experiencing peace in their new land, but Moriyah has yet to find her own peace. Because of the shameful mark on her face, she hides behind her veil at all times and the disdain of the townspeople keeps her from socializing. And marriage prospects were out of the question . . . until now.

Her father has found someone to marry her, and she hopes to use her love of cooking to impress the man and his motherless sons. But when things go horribly wrong, Moriyah is forced to flee. Seeking safety at one of the newly-established Levitical cities of refuge, she is wildly unprepared for the dangers she will face, and the enemies–and unexpected allies–she will encounter on her way.

Counted With the Stars - My Review | The Engrafted Word

When she is not homeschooling her two sweet kids (with a full pot of coffee at hand), Connilyn Cossette is scribbling notes on spare paper, mumbling about her imaginary friends, and reading obscure, out-of-print history books. There is nothing she likes better than digging into the rich, ancient world of the Bible and uncovering buried gems of grace that point toward Jesus. Although a Pacific Northwest native, she now lives near Dallas, Texas.
