Everything about this story drew me in – the Civil War setting, the story idea, and the characters. I always enjoy reading this time period and “In His Eyes” delivered a nicely-written, romantic tale of what life looked like in the South after the war.

It took me a few chapters to really get into the story, but once I did, the pace and plot continued to grow and captivate me. I loved the premise of the story and I was intrigued throughout the book to see how things would be resolved.

I will admit, though, there were a few times when things fell a little flat for me. I wanted a bit more depth to the characters and a little less predictability, but overall it still proved to be an enjoyable read. The history was described very well throughout and the relationship unfolded very sweetly between Ella and Westley.

“In His Eyes” is a historical romance I’m sure many readers will enjoy. This is definitely an author to check out.

I received a free copy from the author. No review, positive or otherwise, was required—all opinions are my own.

Thinking quickly, Ella masquerades as a Yankee officer’s widow in order to have a roof over her head and a home for the child.
