Savanna:  Welcome to The Engrafted Word, Martha! Congratulations on your upcoming release, Love Never Fails. I can’t wait to read it!

With this third installment in The Homeward Journey, can you tell us what first sparked the idea for this series?

Interview with Martha Rogers & GIVEAWAY | The Engrafted WordMartha:  My father gave me a packet of letters his father had given him. The letter from my great-grandfather to his then sweetheart, Sallie, sparked my interest in genealogy and learning more about my ancestors. What started as a simple short book about Manfred and Sally for my family turned into the first novel for this series.

Savanna:  That’s really neat.  Such a legacy!  What do you hope readers will take away most from Molly and Stefan’s story?

Martha:  Both the heroine and hero have to come to the realization that God will take care of them through all situations and that God’s love will never fail them.

Savanna:  Your website mentions you also offer speaking engagements and writing workshops. What is one of your favorite topics to teach and why?

Interview with Martha Rogers & GIVEAWAY | The Engrafted WordMartha:  I love to teach about deep point of view for fiction. The POV one helps the author to go deeper into the mind and thoughts of the character and to show his/her emotions to the fullest. For non-fiction, I love to teach about writing devotionals because I love writing them myself and it’s a good way to relate personal experiences to particular Scripture.

Savanna:  You also do book reviews and author interviews on your blog. What was one of your favorite books to read and review so far this year?

Martha:  Wishing on Buttercups, a novel by Miralee Ferrell is one of my favorite books. Miralee’s books are well written and always hold my attention and keep me turning the pages.

Savanna:  In your experience, which is harder to write – fiction or nonfiction? Can you tell us why?

Interview with Martha Rogers & GIVEAWAY | The Engrafted WordMartha:  Except for devotionals, non-fiction is more difficult to me because it must be right. Researching doctrinal truths, searching Scriptures, and reading the material of others as well as having the experience to back up what is written is much more difficult than making things up as I go along.

Savanna:  What is one of your most unforgettable moments from your writing career to date?

Martha:  One happened at this past ACFW conference in St. Louis when I was given the Volunteer Service Award. That came as a total surprise.

Savanna:  I remember that!  The whole room broke out in cheers! 😉 Thanks for sharing with us, Martha.  It’s great to have you as our guest this week!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?  Any projects you can tell us about?

Martha:  My next book carries on with the family in my present series and is set at Christmas with a theme of giving from the wealth bestowed by God in our lives.

Savanna:  Sounds great! We’ll be watching for it.  Readers, be sure to check out Martha’s books and connect with her on her website below:
