Welcome back to the blog, Sue. I’m so glad to have you here today. Congratulations on your upcoming release, A Most Noble Heir. I’m so looking forward to reading this!
Thanks, Savanna. It’s great to be here!
Tell us about your latest hero and heroine. Why do YOU love these two characters?
My hero is Nolan Price, a groomsman at Stainsby Hall in Derbyshire, England. Nolan has big plans for his future—a future he hopes will include Hannah Burnham, a kitchen maid at the same estate, whom he plans to marry. Nolan and Hannah are both young and idealistic, and they accept the challenges life throws at them with grace and courage, relying on their faith to sustain them through the trials. These characters are especially dear to me because they are loosely based on my great-great grandparents who worked at the real Stainsby Hall in Derbyshire as a groom and a kitchen maid. 🙂
Can’t wait to meet them. I love that your great-great-grandparents were inspiration for the characters. 🙂
What part of this story did you enjoy researching the most?
I had a lot to learn about the rules of aristocracy in England, and it was challenging to come up with ideas to support my plot! Since I’ve always loved the royal family, it was great fun researching other levels of nobility in England.
If you could go out to lunch with one of your characters, who would it be and why?
It would definitely be with Hannah’s Aunt Iris, the Duchess of Hartford. Iris is one of those characters who totally surprised me. She’s a wealthy widow who welcomes Hannah and her sister with open arms. She is also very independent and not afraid to bend the rules of society! Iris became the giver of advice for several of the main characters, and I’m sure she’d be a fascinating lunch partner!
What do you love most about your home in Canada?
I am very proud to live in one of the best countries in the world! I love that we Canadians are a diverse, kind, generous, and accepting people. The other thing I love about Canada is the change of seasons. Though I wish the winter was shorter (especially this year), it definitely makes me appreciate the spring and summer all the more. And fall, with its changing colors, is spectacular.
I would love to visit there someday!
What was the last book you read and what will you remember most about it?
I recently finished “A Fragile Hope” by Cynthia Ruchti. It was a riveting read about a man whose wife suffers a deep brain injury in a serious car accident. Everything about where she was going and why is a mystery to him. He learns that she is pregnant, which she hid from him, and that she was about to leave him. As he waits to see if his wife will survive, he must learn to forgive her apparent betrayal while learning to love a child that is likely not his. I highly recommend it!
Wow, that sounds like an incredible read. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
Actually there is! I have a new series coming out with Bethany House called Canadian Crossings. The first book is entitled “The Best of Intentions” and it comes out this summer.
It’s the story of Grace Abernathy who journeys from England to Canada to find her sister Rose, a recent war widow with an infant son. She plans to bring Rose and her son home to England. However, when Grace arrives, she is met with more tragedy. Desperate to keep her promise to Rose, Grace must find out what has become of her nephew. When she learns Christian is in the custody of his paternal relatives, whom Rose loathed, she procures a job as Christian’s nanny, using an assumed name. To Grace’s dismay, she soon finds herself falling for the boy’s guardian. I hope my readers will love Grace and Andrew’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it!
That sounds like such a fun story. I’ll be watching for it as well, Sue. Thanks so much for visiting with us today.

I love spring because of the sunshine. The promise of warmth and growth. I love planting a vegetable garden and when spring is here for longer than a day, I am usually ready to get outside and enjoy the work!
Oh me too, Terressa! We’ve had a couple days in the 70s and it’s left me dreaming of gardening and planting more flowers. Can’t wait!!
I love seeing the first signs of spring outside. Trees are just starting to get some buds on them😀
I love being able to open the windows and get some fresh air after the house being closed up all winter:
The daffodils are starting to peek up here too, Patty. Spring isn’t far away!! 🙂 I love when it’s time to open the windows again. I love watching the curtains blowing in the breeze. 🙂
I enjoy seeing spring in nature(ducklings, baby lizards etc)
It is in the high 80’s here so there isn’t really a true spring like in other states.
Beautiful cover, thank you for the giveaway!
Oh wow, Janella, you’re already enjoying 80 degree weather? That’s awesome! Can I visit? 😉
I like the spring blossoms the best! And Spring is before it becomes brutally hot. Thank you for the interview and giveaway opportunity.
Hi Perrianne! I just noticed my first daffodil blooming yesterday. Spring is almost here. Yay!! 🙂 Thanks for visiting.
Hi Savanna! I love spring peepers that generally start peeping the end of February and new growth in the flowers and trees!
Hi Cynthia! They just started singing here the last few days. One of my favorite sounds ever. 🙂
What a great interview and I love the family connection in Susan’s upcoming release.
I love seeing the world come alive again in the spring . . . and the chance to have longer days and shorter nights!
So glad you enjoyed our chat, Rebecca. I love seeing nature awaken with such vibrant colors and sounds. And YES, the longer days and shorter nights is wonderful. 😉
The absolute best thing about spring are the daffodils (my favorite!) and crocuses! They’re such beautiful flowers that fill my soul with joy!
I love them too, Karen. I look forward to them every spring. 🙂 Good luck in the giveaway!
Savanna & Susan, thanks for the fun interview! I will be reading this book so I won’t be entering the contest. I just wanted to pop over and comment and also share this giveaway via FB & Twitter 🙂
So happy you could join us, Trixi. Appreciate you sharing the giveaway too. Enjoy the book! 🙂
I love the colors of spring (all that green!) but I also LOVE winter!!!
I just noticed the grass really starting to green up here. Love it. Winter this year in MO was COLD! By with the warm fire, though, it’s cozy in its own way. 🙂
I love the flowers and the budding trees!
Hi Brenda! I spotted the first buds on my lilac yesterday. I’m already dreaming of their fragrant blooms. 🙂
Where we love we don’t have spring. Usually spring is a time of heavy snow which I don’t mind because I love snow! We live in Colorado in the mountains.
Awww, I can’t imagine a world without spring, but I do envy your pretty mountains, Faith. 🙂
The warmer weather and sunshine!
I’m soooo ready for both. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Spring brings about color after a colorless winner. I love the leaves on the trees, the green grass and the warm sunshine.
Perfection! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Melanie. Good luck in the drawing.
I love spring because it’s usually warmer and the flowers are going to be growing again.
Thank you for the giveaway! This book sounds so good!!
Hi Kailey! Yes, the warm weather makes me so eager to plant more flowers too. 🙂 Thanks for joining us!
I love the pretty colored blooms of spring.
I am excited to read this book! Thanks for the opportunity to win it!
The Lord sure created a colorful world around us, didn’t He? 🙂 I love it. Good luck in the giveaway, Elizabeth.
Hello Susan and Savanna! I enjoy Spring for fresh air in the house, flowers growing outside, and because it means soccer season for my youngest son.
That all sounds so lovely, Laura! 🙂 Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to open my windows this spring and let that fresh air in. 🙂

Spring flowering trees! Being outdoors though I guess I COULD be outdoors in the winter too!
Me too, Joan. Yeah, but this winter was COLD here in Missouri, wasn’t it? 🙂 I’m glad you stopped by!

Sue, I love that your story is inspired by your great-great grandparents! (Did I get enough “greats” in there?) 🙂 I read A FRAGILE HOPE as well. It was an intriguing story line. BEST OF INTENTIONS sounds intriguing as well! — As for spring, today’s forecast of a “wintry mix” has me longing for the first green buds on the trees on the Ozark mountain behind my house.
I loved hearing the story behind the story too, Karen. So glad you stopped by. I love seeing fellow Ozark neighbors visit the blog. 🙂 Good luck in the giveaway!

I’m enjoying the first signs of spring here in WV. The robins are back and the bluebirds appeared today. The sedums, daffodils, and hyacinths are poking out of the ground. My door is open and the birds are singing while the spring rain is scenting the air.
Thank you for the chance. Blessings
You paint such a lovely scene, Lucy. Beautiful! Good luck in the drawing. 🙂

Haha, that’s perfect! Your comment made me smile, Kathleen. 🙂

Wow! You all are making me impatient for spring to arrive! Mother Nature is trying to trick us here. It’s been raining for 2 days and all the snow has disappeared. But now it’s getting cold again.
Tomorrow, however, I am flying to Florida for a writers’ retreat and am SO excited to see the ocean and palm trees!
I appreciate you all dropping by and leaving comments. Good luck in the drawing!
Cheers, Susan
Thanks so much for stopping by to chat with us, Sue! I hope you’re having a great time in Florida. I can’t wait to hear all about it. 🙂

Besides, obviously, liking the warmer weather of spring, I also really enjoy the flowers. It is so wonderful to see them bloom again after a cold winter.
Yes, it’s so refreshing to have that vivid color return. 😉 Good luck in the drawing, Pam!

I love to see the results of winter. It is such a spiritual lesson. I am thinking things are dead but spring reveals it is being reborn. The colors of spring and the weather tells me I can be outdoor more.
I know, I love how God uses spring to remind us of Him. Thanks for sharing, Sonnetta. Good luck in the giveaway!
