Not by Sight - My Review | The Engrafted WordIt’s been a long time since a book kept me up late into the night – way past my bedtime – reading as fast as my blurry eyes would allow. 😉 I was so lost in this story I hardly noticed the pages – and the minutes – flying by.  Not by Sight just kept getting better and better with each passing chapter.

There was everything entertaining in this story – mystery, romance, fascinating history, and strong ties of family and friends. With its striking cover and intricate plot, I had no regrets staying up late. It took me to places I did not see coming and kept me guessing up to the very end.

I have a feeling this Jack Benningham is going to steal a lot of readers’ hearts. My heart is often drawn to the wounded hero. I enjoyed every minute he spent with our heroine, who is endearing and passionate in her own right. I loved watching their relationship develop, loved seeing them learn to trust each other, tease each other, and yes, even argue. My heart also broke with theirs at a few points along the way, but the stage was set well and its cast told a beautiful story.

A couple parts near the end felt a little rushed to me, but the surprises wrapped up the story nicely. Its themes of forgiveness and faith and friendship made this book a pure delight to read.

Last but not least, can I just say how much I loved the title. Only after finishing the book did I realize just how perfect it really was. And did I mention what a beautiful cover? 😉 Read this book. I know you’ll enjoy it!

Thank you to Bethany House Publishing and the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

In the spring of 1917, all of Britain’s attention is on the WWI war front and the thousands of young men serving their country on the front lines. Jack Benningham, dashing heir to the Earl of Stonebrooke, is young and able-bodied but refuses to enlist despite the contempt of his peers.

A wealthy young suffragette, Grace Mabry will do anything to assist her country’s cause. Men like Jack infuriate her when she thinks of her own brother fighting in the trenches of France, so she has no reservations about handing him a white feather of cowardice at a posh masquerade ball.

But Grace could not anticipate the danger and betrayal set into motion by her actions, and soon she and Jack are forced to learn the true meaning of courage when the war raging overseas suddenly strikes much closer to home and their fervent beliefs become a matter of life and death.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Florida girl who migrated to the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Kate Breslin lives with her husband, John, and a very spoiled cat named Coco. Kate has written several travel articles, published award-winning poetry, and her first manuscript, a Scottish historical romance, was finalist in RWA’s Golden Heart Contest. These days, when she’s not writing inspirational fiction or spending time with her author friends, she’s reading books, watching anything Jane Austen on BBC, or following John’s musical career as his #1 fan. An avid  “tree-hugger” she often enjoys long walks in the forests or playing in the garden. Kate’s also a traveler–she and John have toured most of Washington state and many places in the U.S. And with her intrepid mom as traveling companion, Kate’s also been abroad–Paris, Munich, Rome, Pompeii, Athens, even a day trip to Turkey. She’s always looking for the next story idea! Visit her at www.katebreslin.com.
