Welcome to PART 2 of my Study Book Review and Giveaway series. If you missed PART 1 and my review of James, you can read it here. I was so blessed by your responses to my first post and I’m more excited than ever to see who will win a free copy – THEIR CHOICE – of one of these three study books by Beth Moore. (James, David, or Esther) Remember, anyone who leaves a comment on any of the 3 reviews will be registered in the drawing in August. 😉
So let me tell you now a little bit about David: Seeking a Heart Like His.
I was so excited to start this study and spend time in the Word following the story of the man after God’s own heart, but I had no clue I’d discover so many new things about David and fresh lessons to convict my heart as well. If you think you already know the famous psalmist and his topsy-turvy life, you’re in for a wonderful fresh introduction.
Yes, Beth Moore plants our feet first in the pasture alongside the young shepherd. We follow his steps along from his early days as a young soldier and confidante to King Saul to the later years of difficulty running from his enemies and facing the repercussions of his sins. And all throughout, we watch and read and learn as David’s heart is shaped and sanctified by the King of Kings.
But the study goes deeper than just a mere overview of his biography. Every single chapter, while telling pieces of history, offered applicable lessons for my own life’s experiences. I know it will apply to yours as well. Beth Moore leads readers deep into the Scriptures to seek out the ways in which the Lord worked through his servant David and find what He has to teach us too.
By seeing David in his different roles and callings, in his varying moments of strength and weakness, you’ll find yourself humbled, intrigued, and convicted along with the man himself. It never ceases to astonish me how the Lord worked in mysterious, yet wonderful ways to accomplish His purpose for David and to know He is working in us just the same.
Another part that I enjoyed about this book was the time spent studying the other lives affected by David during his lifetime. Ah, the drama of relationships, right? 😉 There is certainly plenty of “The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly” to go around in 1 and 2 Samuel. I think readers will enjoy learning some new insights into Saul, Jonathan, even David’s wives and children, as well as the people of Israel as a whole.
The greatest part about this study was its overall, ultimate theme, of course – the story and power of Christ lifted up through a simple man’s existence. I love how every part of David’s crazy life connects together for a beautiful symbol of our beloved Jesus.
No matter what you’re facing right now – whether it’s temptation, tragedy, doubts, or even family problems – this study book is overflowing with gems of wisdom and examples to lighten your path. It’s my favorite study book of Beth Moore’s to date.
