The Hesitant Heiress - My Review | The Engrafted WordMysterious and romantic, The Hesitant Heiress delivers an intriguing love story that captivated my attention from the start. This charming debut novel was quick to hook me in, pose questions I wanted answered, and twist the story in unexpected, yet satisfying directions. It’s set in a world familiar to that of Jane Austin’s beloved stories and maintains a delightful, dramatic flare sure to entertain.

Secrets lurk within every chapter. Expectations and doubts easily confuse the affections and decisions of the heart. Misunderstandings and miscommunications make it a fascinating tale you won’t want to put down. I could not quite guess how the ending would go and appreciated that quality. I had to keep reading to find out. πŸ˜‰

My favorite thing about this story was how much “page time” the two main characters spent together. I enjoyed following the progression of their relationship and how easy it was to believe them in their various moments of “love and war”. I was glad to find their frequent encounters throughout and watch their complicated romance build to a boil. You won’t be disappointed, trust me.

Sometimes I don’t appreciate stories that are told through first person POV, but it didn’t bother me in this case. Our hesitant heroine, Amaryllis, is an amusing character. The storytelling and how it transitioned between her thoughts and the dialogue all felt very natural to me. I wasn’t overly conscious of the first person account like I usually am. It flowed very easily and I didn’t mind being stuck in her head for a little while. (Though I did want to shake her a few times for being so blind about Nathan. You’ll see…) πŸ˜‰

Yes, there is suspense. And there is dancing. And there are plenty of surprises along the way. I have no doubt that all of this – and much more – will grab readers and turn them into avid fans of this new series. Be sure to check it out!

This review is my honest opinion.Β  Thanks to the publisher for my copy.
