This novella by Liz Johnson is the perfect quick read for any day. I actually purchased this book for my Kindle, so it was nice to take a few moments every day to read this story, and in a matter of moments, I could add this story to my Goodreads list! I love long novels, but it also nice to sometimes read a shorter story. Luckily, there are three other books in the Prince Edward Island Dreams series, which I cannot wait to read.

Knowing that Prince Edward Island was the setting for this novella made it all the more special. For many readers, I am sure the mention of this island is quite nostalgic because of Anne of Green Gables. For Brooke Kane, this island has always been her home. The only time she left was to go to college, yet she did not even stay away then. School breaks led her home most of the time, and when she was there her times were consumed by helping those in her community. However, Brooke truly wanted to find a solitary purpose for her life. She really hoped there was more to life than completing the simple mundane activities entangling her time.

Chuck O’Flannigan did his best to encourage his congregation, yet he believed he was failing miserably. So many members had given up and left the positions they once held not bothering to make sure someone else could take their place. He was discouraged and considered leaving Prince Edward Island. Not many in his midst gave him hope. Yet there was one. However, Chuck knew that kind of hope was ridiculous, and one he could never entertain. Brooke had her own life, and she was so much younger than him. What would she think if she knew how he felt about her? Chuck wished circumstances were different, but there was not much he could do. Until one night, when he almost lost his life, an angel was there to save him, and his world would change forever.

If you love Christmas stories and enjoy reading fiction, I recommend checking out this novella by Liz Johnson. Each character experiences hope, love, fear, and joy, which makes this tale relatable to the reader. Yet it is also a light-hearted read making it the perfect story for any time of the year. Happy reading!

About the Book

One blizzard. Two friends. Three days to fall in love.

Lifelong islander Brooke Kane doesn’t know what to do with her college degree, her dreams, or her future, but she knows better than to venture far from home when there’s a storm brewing. But a promise to check on Rose’s Red Door Inn prompts Brooke to venture out. By the time she arrives at the inn, the snow is knee-deep and visibility almost non-existent. She settles in to spend a few days alone at the inn until a familiar figure appears at the door.

Pastor Chuck O’Flannigan has never felt like a bigger fool. So focused on his recent decision to leave Prince Edward Island, he’s caught unaware by the blizzard while on a walk. He can only see the inn’s red door, a promise of safety. But when he discovers that Brooke—the only woman who could tempt him to stay on the island—is also taking refuge there, he knows he’s in trouble.

With Christmas only three days away, Brooke is determined that they’ll celebrate—even if it’s just the two of them. Happy to play Scrooge to her Tiny Tim, Chuck wiles away his hours dreaming of a return to Ireland—praying that God may have plans for him there. After all, God seems to have forgotten him in North Rustico. But as Brooke brings Christmas to life, her joy makes him wonder if God may not have forgotten him. In fact, God may have big plans for both of them—if they can only survive Christmas at the Red Door Inn.
