Welcome to the blog, Jaime. I’m so excited to have you here today. Congratulations on your upcoming release, The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond. I am soooo intrigued by that cover. Canβt wait to read it!
What first inspired this story?
Hmmm, great question! The first thing that inspired it was the random thought of how creepy itβd be if a killer submitted their victimβs obituary before they committed the crime. And then when I drifted from those dark thoughts, I started wondering about the impact of a town that hid their sins instead of seeking grace, and how that may affect generations to come.
Okay, now I’m even more hooked!! π
What will you remember most about writing this book?
Iβll remember most how I stumbled on one of the main thrusts of the story in a Sunday School class led by my Associate Pastor. Heβd done research on our local history and two twin evangelists that came to town around the turn-of-the-century and really raised havoc here. Needless to say, as I was inspired to include elements of that into this novel, my Associate Pastor was already thinking βJaimeβs gotta write this into a bookβ. Coincidence? Doubtful. I think it was a God-thing to revive an old story that needed to be retold in a fictional way.
Wow, that’s amazing! I love hearing how God brings stories together in such unique ways.
I just gotta say⦠I LOVE your titles. Did you come up with them? If not, what were your original titles?
Ohhhhh! Fun question. Well, for The House on Foster Hill, Iβd actually called it She Holds the Grave. My publisher was afraid it was a little too dark. I canβt blame them as Iβm also known for titles like When Walls Run Red and make my novels sound more like a horror novel than a mystery. The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond was originally called The Obituary Keeper. I canβt recall exactly why we changed itβI think there was again concern that βobituaryβ was a bit too morbid. LOL! My sad little mind. My next novel coming out in January, The Curse of Misty Wayfair was actually my working title, though, Iβm proud to say!!
They’re all fascinating and leave me wanting to learn more! π Great job!
What would you say is the easiest part about being a writer and what is the hardest part?
The easiest part is probably coming up with the story idea. The hardest is probably that darn first draft. Oy, they can be difficult to maneuver.
I’m with you there! Call me crazy, there are times when editing seems easier than that first draft! π
What upcoming book(s) are you excited to read this year?
Too many to count! LOL Iβm looking forward to Joanna Davidson Politanoβs A Rumored Fortune, and Rachel McMillanβs Murder at the Flamingo.
I LOVE Joanna’s writing and I’ve heard great things about Rachel’s too.
Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
There are always stories brewing in my head. π Iβm most excited about the January 2019 release of The Curse of Misty Wayfair. It has become a story near and dear to my heart, so Iβm anxious for you all to read it!
That’s awesome, Jaime. It’s been a joy to have you stop by and chat with us today. I’ll be watching for your upcoming books. Have a blessed week!

Lol I’d say changing the title was a good call. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have picked up books with the other titles. But The House on Foster Hill was a tempting mystery that I couldn’t pass up. And I’m very grateful to have picked up your first book. I’m looking forward to the next two.
