Savanna: Welcome to The Engrafted Word, Katie! Congratulations on your recent release, Finding Me. We’re so glad you could join us today! What was the hardest part about writing this story and what proved to be the easiest?
Katie: I always REALLY REALLY REALLY struggle with getting the initial idea, and then turning that idea into a complete story. The idea for “Finding Me” came from a combination of true stories I saw in the news. Taking those two true stories, unwinding them, then combining them into a new story was difficult. It became a daily walk of faith, to ignore that “this is not working” voice inside my head and keep doing the work. When I start getting into the edits and re-writes, then it becomes more enjoyable, because I can see that the story really is working.
Savanna: It’s a long road, isn’t it? 😉 Out of all the characters you’ve written, which one do you relate to the most and why?
Katie: I’m most like Andie in A Promise to Remember. We both tend to let people push us around a little too much. 🙂 Thankfully though, we both have strong-minded people in our lives who love us.
Savanna: Where would we be without those people who love us for who we are, right?
I read on your website that the pets in your books are named after your real pets. What a cute idea! And I love their names. Which animal should your readers expect to meet next?
Katie: Chance the dog is currently waiting his turn to make an appearance. Even now, I’m trying to decide if he fits in the book I’m just starting. We’ll see.
Savanna: What is your favorite genre to read? What are you reading right now?
Katie: I read a little of everything. I like to mix it up, so once I finish a heavy book, I’ll read something light next. I just finished The Girl on the Train: A Novel by Paula Hawkins, and am currently reading Emma and Otto and Russell and James: A Novel by Emma Hooper.
Savanna: What is your favorite way of connecting with your readers and why? (Through a book signing, book club, social media, etc?)
Katie: I like connecting via Facebook. It’s a great way to get to know people a bit. I also enjoy my chats with book clubs, that is always fun.
Savanna: Thanks so much for joining us here, Katie. Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
Katie: Thank you so much for thinking of me! I’m just starting on a new project. It’s early days, but I can say it involves a lot of glamorous vintage gowns. It’s making for fun research.
Savanna: That does sound like fun! Happy Writing. We’ll be watching for your next release. 😉

Thank you for taking the time to chat, Katie! I’m so happy to have you here.
Your books have been on my “to-read” list for awhile, but I have never gotten started. I enjoy connecting on Facebook because it’s quick and easy and lots of fun!
Hi Rebecca! Isn’t it fun that we can become friends with our favorite authors?! 🙂 Years ago I never would have imagined it would be so easy. Thanks for joining us today.
Vintage gowns ~ how fun. What era are you researching? I think of white wedding gowns with lace flowers interwoven in different shades of white. Would be so pretty. I would love to win a print copy of Finding Me.
Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House
I agree, Kathleen. I’m intrigued, aren’t you? 😉 Thanks for stopping by for the giveaway. Good luck!
I have read such great reviews of this book. Looking forward to reading it!
Wonderful! Hope we can get a copy in your hands too, Melissa. 😉
Hi Kathryn and Savanna!! Really enjoyed the author interview. I also liked where you use your own pets names, guess you have to have your inspiration somewhere 😉 And since I’m not a writer, I wouldn’t even begin to know where to start on a story let alone write an entire book! And like you also, I like to mix my books up. I might read a suspense book or two and then switch to a romance and then maybe a magazine (Reader’s Digest or Guideposts). For me, it can get a bit tedious to read the same genre. Keeps the old brain working….HA!
I like to keep up with authors in various ways. Since I’ve discovered so many new-to-me writers, it’s been a lot of fun to keep up with them via their blogs. I usually first learn about them in giveaways, either on Facebook or author interviews such as this. I also just registered for Twitter not too long ago, so I also see things there from the authors I follow. I especially love it when authors recommend other authors books! I’ve also enjoyed book reviews on different blogs. That get’s me excited for both the book and the writer. And when I do win a book, I write a short email to thank them for the giveaway and let them know I’m happy to write a review after reading it. There are just so many ways to keep in touch, it’s mind-blowing! 🙂
Kathryn, thank you for coming out to Savanna’s blog for a short interview & for the chance to win a copy of “Finding Me”. Sounds like a wonderful read! You ladies are just so wonderful. It’s nice to catch back up to you Savanna, I’ve missed being able to come here! Life just got busy, not that you would know anything about that 😉 Blessings to you both & may you feel God rain down His love on your lives!
Hi sweet Trixi! It’s great to have you back. I totally understand the craziness of life making time fly by. 😉
I wouldn’t be so quick to say you’re not a writer. There are all kinds of writers out there and I believe you’re more one than you give yourself credit for. 🙂 You are a writer of encouragement, my friend. From online comments and messages to the emails you mentioned you send to authors… your heart shines through your words. That’s a gift. May God bless your heart the way you’ve blessed mine today.
I love finding out about new writers! And Samford University–in Birmingham? I live in Homewood just behind Samford! Small world.
Hi Lauren! Wow, that’s neat. We’re glad you could join us for the chat. 🙂 Good luck in the giveaway!
Savanna, thank you for the interview on Kathryn. I follow your blog. I enjoyed getting to know the author through the interview . She is a new to me author and her book sounds marvelous. I wouldn’t mind starting with any of her books.
I keep up with authors on facebook and online blogs and Goodreads. I love Goodreads for author updates. Thank you for the generous giveaway opportunity Savanna and Kathryn.
