Welcome to the blog, Mikal. I’m SO happy to have you here today. Congratulations on your recent release, If She Dares.
Thank you so much Savanna!!! I’m thrilled you’ve asked me to be back and talk about Lia and Garr. I <3 them.
What do you love most about your hero and your heroine in this story?
They’re both real and down to earth. Lia is working her 9 to 5…or trying to. Garr is a board game fanatic who also happens to have some, um…hoarding tendencies. Ha! I also confess: Garr is pretty much based on my husband, minus the hoarding. Thankfully my own personal hero doesn’t have that issue. (Well, except for the cardboard boxes. He does like to keep those, despite my mournful pleas.)
Haha! Love it! Who could refuse a hero who loves to play board games?! 🙂
Can you share a favorite quote with us?
Eep! A favorite quote. Okay, I’m going to be honest here: it isn’t anything profound or inspiring. LOL! But it’s probably one of my favorite scenes of the story—you’ll have to read the entire scene to get this quote. 😉
What in the wor— She drew back her purse and whomped his chest with it, turning to run. She almost started yelling “Stranger danger!” but thought better of it. Because, y’know, she wasn’t seven.
Reading this just makes me smile. I sooo want to keep reading.
Which heroine from a book would you like to be? Why?
Ooohh…what a great question!! That’s a tough one, to be honest. Hm. I need to answer this two-fold: historical and contemporary. Historically, I would love to be Lady Laura Middleton from Tamara Leigh’s The Awakening. Not because of what happened to her earlier in her life, but because of the way she “awakens.” <3 It’s one of my favorite Tamara Leigh books.
Contemporary…that’s probably a harder question! I read so many amazing books that this is almost impossible. But I would say probably any of the Operation Zulu (by Ronie Kendig) heroines. They’re strong, independent, fierce women!
I NEED to read those!!! I’ve heard wonderful things about those books. 🙂
What’s one of your favorite songs?
Sheesh, woman, you’re killing me here!! Another almost impossible question. And again, two-fold: my all-time favorite Christian song is Great I Am by New Life Worship! I LOVE this song! I’m also partial to Lauren Daigle’s new single, Still Rolling Stones.
Other songs are always Christmas songs. 😉 And I’ve been known to belt out ‘80s hair bands on the regular. Ha!
Love the variety! 🙂 I’ll confess I’ve already listened to a couple Christmas songs. 😉 Shhh! Don’t tell my hubby.
What’s something your readers would be surprised to know about you?
Surprised to know about me? I don’t know that anything is all that surprising. LOL! Maybe that I can’t cook worth anyone’s life, but I can bake the best cheesecakes you can imagine! And I love making those…as long as I can give them away, otherwise I would eat the whole thing.
Ohhhhh, cheesecake sounds amazing! I should get your recipe. 🙂
Thanks for sharing, Mikal. Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
Yes! I’m doing NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) right now, and though I was planning on releasing Bo and Story’s, er…story…next, they’ve been two extremely stubborn characters. So I thought I would switch over to Caprice (Allegra’s sister from Count Me In). I’m having so much fun with her! And if you read If She Dares in the Once Upon a Laugh novella collection, there’s a certain scene in there where Garrison wins Lia almost completely…stay tuned to figure that little “Easter Egg” out.
Fun! Thanks for joining us today. Good luck in with NaNoWriMo too. I’m cheering you on!!

I have been listening to Christmas music since July(thanks Hallmark) I personally start Thanksgiving Day as I am putting up the tree.
Sonnetta (by the way, I LOVE your name), you are my hero!!!!!! Christmas in July is PERFECTION. 😀
Thank you. I was a surprise to my mom. She had my twin’s name picked out and she needed something similiar. I hated the name when I was younger and I wanted to be called Donna.
Hallmark is one of my addictions.
Awwww, fun, Sonnetta! Just a few more days then and you’ll be decorating! I wish my hubby would let me do that too. 😉
I listen after Thanksgiving.
Jan, thank you so much for stopping by!! <3
It won’t be long! 😉 Can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week. Thanks for visiting, Jan!
Usually not until I’m putting up the Christmas tree which will be as soon as Thanksgiving company leaves!
Hi Joan! Thank you so much for stopping by. 😀 And here I’m trying to talk my husband into letting me decorate BEFORE our Thanksgiving company arrives! LOL!
So glad you stopped by, Joan. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, friend!
I enjoyed reading the interview. I’d love to meet you, Mikal Dawn. Your books sound great.
I’m an after Thanksgiving person. I have always loved Thanksgiving so want to give it it’s due. Christmas decorations and music the next day.
Hi Joyce! Thanks for joining us. I usually start the decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving myself. 🙂 Have a blessed holiday!
