I want to say up front that I’m a little late in the game to be hopping into this series by Dani Pettrey – four books behind in her Alaskan Courage series, to be exact – but I couldn’t resist giving Sabotaged a try. And I’m so glad that I did. There was no need to worry if I’d connect to the story and its characters. I was hooked from the first page and flew through the entire book in 2 days.
What stood out to me the most was the strength and growth of the characters, mainly Reef and Kirra. I really enjoyed their friendly banter and blossoming relationship throughout the book. They anchored the story quite nicely with all the plot twists and curves that wrapped around them. Returning readers of this series will undoubtedly enjoy the appearances of the other family members too. Their subplots accompanied nicely.
I also really appreciated the depth and development of the plot. The pace was well-crafted, keeping me turning the pages as fast as I could read them. The dangers along the race and the difficult lessons of the heart held my attention. The seeds of faith, hope, and healing were sown delicately.
I had hoped for an adventure and this story delivered beyond my expectations. I’m a new fan of this author. 😉 Now to go back and read the rest of her series…
Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now paired together on Yancey’s search-and-rescue canine unit, they begin to put aside old arguments as they come to see each other in a different light.
Then a call comes in from the Iditarod that will push them to their limits. Kirra’s uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing. Frank’s daughter has been kidnapped. In order to save her, the man must use his knowledge as a mechanical engineer to do the kidnapper’s bidding or she will die.
Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl’s life, but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.

Hey Savanna! Thanks for the great review of Sabotaged. Dani is a new-to-me author. I will be checking out this series! 🙂
Thanks for reading my review, Caryl. I really think you’ll like this series. Hope you get to check it out soon! 😉
I won a copy of this book on another blog giveaway & I am definitely looking forward to reading it! Of course, I need to borrow the other four from my library….well, because I am a bit of an OCD person who has to read series books in order! 😉 I know with this particular series, you don’t have to, it does stand alone. But I love the depth of characters you get & learn all the back-stories. Makes the books much more enjoyable for me! Thanks for your review, Savanna, I can tell I will be in for a treat with this book!
How fun that you won a copy of this book, Trixi! 🙂 Yay for giveaways!! I totally understand wanting to start at the beginning of a series. I usually prefer that method and always recommend that. I enjoyed this book regardless, but I know I would have appreciated the other characters more if I was already familiar with them from the other books. Happy Reading to you always!!
