The Gold in These Hills by Joanne Bischof
Ebook
One wild and mysterious ghost town. Two second-chance love stories. And the century-old legacy that binds them together.
Upon arriving in Kenworthy, California, mail-order bride Juniper Cohen is met by the pounding of the gold mine, an untamable landscape, and her greatest surprise of all: the kind and loving man who awaits her. But when the mine proves empty of profit, and when Juniper’s husband, John, vanishes, Juniper is left to fend for herself and her young daughter in the dwindling boomtown that is now her home.
Juniper pens letters to her husband but fears she is waiting on a ghost. Perhaps worse, rumors abound claiming the man she loves could be an outlaw. Surviving in a ghost town requires trusting the kindness of a few remaining souls, including the one who can unlock the mystery of her husband’s disappearance—and Juniper’s survival depends not only upon these friends but also the strength of heart she must fight to maintain.
Present day. Trying to escape the heartache of his failed marriage, Johnny Sutherland throws himself into raising his children and restoring a hundred-year-old abandoned farmhouse in what was once known as Kenworthy, California, in the San Jacinto Mountains. While exploring its secrets he uncovers Juniper’s letters and is moved by the handwritten accounts that bear his name—and as a love story from the past touches his own world, Johnny might discover yet that hope and resilience go hand in hand.
With The Gold in These Hills, acclaimed and beloved author Joanne Bischof returns with an absorbing masterpiece of faith, perseverance, and love that changes the course of history.

My favorite thing about fall is cooler temperatures. Here in Texas we can get up to 115 degrees on a summer day. It is usually very dry as well so by the end of the summer we are definitely ready for some cooler days or at least a cooler evening. We really don’t get much in the way of leaves changing colors but in the Spring we have the beautiful Bluebonnets.
Ohhhh yes, those beautiful bluebonnets. Wish we had some here in the Ozarks. 🙂 I can’t imagine 115 degrees, though. Sounds like you earn the beautiful fall temps. Enjoy, Perrianne!
I love pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, apple crisp, and cool nights with bright stars!
Perfection! I’m really wanting to bake some pumpkin bread myself this week. 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth!
I enjoy celebrating the Fall Feasts (Rosh HaShana and Succot). The crisp temperatures are so enjoyable.
Fall truly is a special season. So glad you could join us, Caryl!
My favorite thing about fall is the beautiful landscapes with brown, orange, yellow and red leafs, walking through the crunching leaves, and the cooler temperature for drinking hot apple cinnamon tea! Thanks for the chance of the awesome giveaway!
Love your answer, Paty. You paint such a lovely scene that I want to step right into. Fall is so lovely! 🙂
My favorite thing about fall is the leaves changing color.
Seems like the trees are taking forever to change here in the Ozarks, but I agree, Diana…. the fall colors are worth the wait! 🙂
My favorite thing about fall is the colorful autumn foliage and crisp air.
It’s so refreshing, isn’t it? Hope you’re enjoying many beautiful days like that, Roxanne. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
My favorite thing about Fall is cooler temperatures and the vibrant colors that Autumn brings to the leaves of the trees. Also wearing nice clothes after wearing any old thing in Summer.
Marilyn
🙂 Love it, Marilyn! Yes, I’m ready to break out my sweatshirts and slippers and curl up on the front porch with some coffee and a good book!
Love the changing leaves and the beauty as God paints them.
It’s definitely the handiwork of an amazing Artist! 🙂 Love the changing leaves too, Lucy! 🙂
I love crisp sweatshirt weather which may be coming in a couple of days!
Yes, it’s finally starting to feel like winter is on its way. I hope fall sticks around awhile longer! 🙂
My favorite thing about fall is seeing all the pretty colors of leaves on the trees.
