Welcome back to the blog, Cynthia. I’m so excited to have you join us today to celebrate your NEW release, Under Moonlit Skies!
Thanks, Savanna! Iβm excited to be here.
What will you remember most about writing this book?
Two things, reallyβthe research and the characters. I loved researching this time period just ahead of the Civil War. One of the questions I asked myself at the onset was, βHow were free black treated in the north in the years preceding the Civil War? What I found was not surprising, and yet, at the same time, shocking.
As always, one of my favorite parts of writing is creating characters. I absolutely love my hero, Stewart (Stew) Brant. And he seems to be a favorite of my ARC readers as well. =) But I also truly enjoyed the diverseness of characters in this novelβeverything from wealthy businessmen to free blacks to cattlemen. Each character has an indelible roll in the overall message of the story and was such fun to create!
When did you first discover you were a writer?
During my junior year of high school, my English teacher encouraged me to enter a story in a local college writing contest. I entered and was amazed to win first place! I knew then and there, I wanted to write, but more importantly, I knew I wanted my writing to be a ministry. My tagline is Sowing Seeds of Hope into the Lives of Readers. That is my goal in all that I write.
I love that! It’s so special to hear how God calls writers to write. π
Which heroine from any book would you like to be? Why?
Oh, wow! Thatβs a toughy! Possibly Lady Miranda Hawthorne in A Noble Masquerade because I could so identify with her characterβ¦and love the interaction between her and Marlow! Anne of Green Gables and Jo from Little Women are two other favorites of mine.
Ohhhh, those are great ones!! Love them all.
What is one of your favorite things about where you live?
It would have to be the beauty of fall. I love the colorful leaves, the chirping insects, and the crispness in the autumn air. I also love harvest time, when the fields are ripe and I get to ride side-saddle in the combine with my husband. =)
Whatβs one of your favorite things about being an author?
Thatβs easy. When I hear one of my novels has made an impact on a reader. Thereβs nothing sweeter than hearing something I wrote touched someoneβs heart.
Thank you so much for joining us today, Cynthia. It’s always a joy to have you here. Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
Iβve just begun researching and writing my fourth book. This will most likely be a standalone novel set in the latter part of the Civil War and immediately following. Iβm still formulating the storyline, but it involves a wounded Union soldier, a sympathetic Southern belle who falls from her fatherβs good graces, and a moment in history that challenges the core of what both characters believe.
That sounds great! You know I can’t wait to read it. We so appreciate you visiting with us today. Congrats again on your release day!
MY REVIEW
I have been highly anticipating this third installment of the Prairie Sky Series and it did not disappoint. Once again, I was carried away to the nineteenth century prairie and the adventure that unfolds for Stewart and Esther. The sparks fly between these two from the start and I found myself smiling as their worlds collided.
Rich in period details and historical flavor, Under Moonlit Skies is romantic and memorable. The pace of the story really picked up speed for me halfway through, when a fascinating plot twist bursts onto the page. I could not read fast enough to see what our hero and heroine were going to do.
Readers of the previous books in this series will also be happy to see familiar characters return. If you enjoy historical fiction with a beautiful message of faith woven in, this book is just for you. Fall in love with these prairie folks, learn through their struggles and be blessed as you read. Under Moonlit Skies is a sweet and touching story you donβt want to miss.
About the Book
Illinois prairie ~ 1859
After four long years away, Esther Stanton returns to the prairie to care for her sister Charlotteβs family following the birth of her second child. The month-long stay seems much too short as Esther becomes acquainted with her brother-in-lawβs new ranch hand, Stewart Brant. When obligations compel her to return to Cincinnati and to the man her overbearing mother intends her to wed, she loses hope of ever knowing true happiness.
Still reeling from a hurtful relationship, Stew is reluctant to open his heart to Esther. But when he faces a life-threatening injury with Esther tending him, their bond deepens. Heartbroken when she leaves, he sets out after her and inadvertently stumbles across an illegal slave-trade operation, the knowledge of which puts him, as well as Esther and her family, in jeopardy.

Ohhhh, I so want to read that one. Thanks for sharing, Joan. π
Any heroine that is good, kind and loving.
Joan
Yes, definitely! So glad you could visit us today, Joan. π
I’m with you, Joan! Blessings!
I just finished Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano, and I think it would be fun to be her for a day. Jen Turano writes Gilded Age stories, and it would be great to visit that time period for a day, but I think I’d miss all the modern conveniences we have today.
Thanks for the interview and giveaway! Cynthia is a new-to-me author, but I’ve heard great things about her bookd!
So happy you could join us, Winnie! I definitely encourage you to check out Cynthia’s books. And I desperately need to check out Jen Turano’s!! π
Hi Winnie! I’m so thrilled to meet you! That warms my heart to hear! The best to you in the giveaway!
I would be Nancy Drew for a day because she solved mysteries and didnβt ever seem to be in much danger. She was a childhood facorite.
Sadly, I never read those books as a child, but so many of you have mentioned her over the years on this blog that I really want to look them up. I should definitely get them for my kiddos! Thanks for sharing, Perrianne!
Great choice, Perrianne! Thanks for dropping by!
I’d be Sara from Chronicles of Narnia because she spent time with Aslan.
Wonderful thought, Caryl! Thank you!
I would be Ayla from The Clan of the CaveBear series by Jean Auel. aliciabhaney@sbcglobal.net
That’s a new one to me, Alicia. Thanks for sharing! π
