This book may just be my favorite of this author’s yet. It has all the elements that I love to find in a historical romance. The hero and heroine were both strong and likeable from the start, with obvious goals, and watching their relationship unfold was pure entertainment. And the historical details and romantic plot intertwined perfectly.
The story seemed to develop so naturally. The characters grew and changed, the obstacles in their way increased as well, binding me to pages. I had my guesses as to how the story would unfold, but I was pleasantly surprised as the chapters flew by. There is a certain intrigue over how these characters will work through their problems. Their willing, charitable hearts are courageous and inspiring.
I think one of my favorite parts of the story was seeing how both Nicholas and Lydia overcame the misconceptions about each other and themselves. Not to mention all their preconceived notions about others. Seeing how they changed each other and challenged each other was beautiful. The hard lessons they learned give the readers so much to ponder as well. Overall, the story’s theme that everyone needs grace and forgiveness from the past is applicable to us all.
A Heart Most Certain is a book from the heart. The Lord’s compassion and love for his people is bright upon the page, as is His calling them to serve as His hands and feet to other hurting souls. I have no doubt historical fans will enjoy this story.
