Roseanna M. White pens her novels beneath her Betsy Ross flag, with her Jane Austen action figure watching over her. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two children, editing and designing, and pretending her house will clean itself. The Lost Heiress is Roseanna’s tenth published book. Her novels range from biblical fiction to American-set romances to her new British series. She lives with her family in West Virginia.

Savanna:Â Welcome to the blog, Roseanna. We’re so glad you could join us today. Congratulations on your upcoming release, The Lost Heiress.
Roseanna: Thanks so much, Savanna! It’s a pleasure to be here. 🙂
Savanna:Â When did you first get the idea for this story and how long did it take you to write it?
Roseanna: Well actually, this idea came to me a looooooong time ago. As in, when I was 12. The first week of 7th grade, I decided I was going to write a novel, and unlike all those other times I’d tried, I was going to finish this one. I decided to write a story about a girl who was raised as a princess only to discover she was actually British…but of course, when she went home to her family, she gets mixed up in the very trouble that had killed her parents.
That original book took me a year and a half to write, and it was of course BRILLIANT. *Cough, cough. Ahem.* I rewrote it the summer before ninth grade. And then in college. Did a total rewrite round about 2006 and decided to pitch it at my very first writers conference in 2007. Fast forward another 7 years and I’d rewritten it again, this time changing the setting to 1910 instead of 1860…and this time it really came together. I did the rewrite in 3 or 4 months and am over the moon to have sold this, a rewrite of my first ever novel, to Bethany House—the first publisher I queried about it when I was 14! (Don’t know why they didn’t buy that version, LOL.)
Savanna: What a story! I love it. Your book has traveled a great journey. 😉 How is your character Brook like you and how is she different?
Roseanna: Well, back in the day, Brook was designed to be Ideal Roseanna. She had my basic physical description…only prettier. 😉 She was what I wanted to be—bold and daring and maybe just a bit impulsive, but so witty and sweet that everyone forgave her for it.
Brook, even after so many rewrites, is still most of those things. But in the 19 years since I first wrote her, my understanding of her has certainly changed! In this last edit, I came to realize that her boldness was in part to cover her fear, and man did that change everything!
Savanna:Â The Culper Ring series takes readers through multiple generations and time periods. Which era did you enjoy researching the most?
Roseanna: I am such a history nerd, LOL. I honestly enjoy researching any era. There’s something so fun about discovering those little tidbits that sets each year and decade apart from the others that come before and after. But I gotta say, I’m glad to be sticking to one era for this series—more time to spend on characters and less on learning everything about the time!
Savanna:Â What has been the most memorable book you’ve read so far this year?
Roseanna: Oh, this is a hard one! I’ve read so many awesome books, both on my own and with my kids (we homeschool). I think my favorite from our school reading was Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. A novelization about the life of Nathaniel Bowditch, this was an awesome historical fiction that brought to life an American figure who completely changed the lives of sailors—and whose book is still used by the Navy today.
In my personal reading, I have to say The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner. I’m a bit behind the times but finally picked it up for my book club, and oh my goodness! SO GOOD!
Savanna:Â Can you share with us a piece of writing advice that has made a difference in your career?
Roseanna: I think it would have to be that your writing and publication journey is your own. No one else’s. You’ll never be your favorite author, you’ll never follow anyone else’s path. And you’re not supposed to—because God has a unique plan for you, and you can only discover it by following where He leads you.
Savanna:Â Beautiful advice, thank you. Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
Roseanna: I’m always so excited to welcome a new book into the world, but there’s something so incredibly special about this one. It’s traveled with me more than half my life, and I pray that Brook’s story will entertain and inspire readers just a fraction as much as it has me over the years!
Savanna:Â I know I’m looking forward to reading it. Thank you for sharing with us, Roseanna. Have a blessed day!

I like your comment about pretending your house will clean itself LOL
Sadly, it never does. Le sigh.
Something we all dream for, isn’t it? 😉 Thanks for stopping by, Laurie!
Hello Savanna, Great interview with Roseanna! Roseanna, congratulations on the upcoming release of The Lost Heiress. It sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it. 🙂
Thank you! I’m still quite excited about it, LOL.
I’m glad you could swing by for a visit, Caryl. Hope you get to read Roseanna’s book soon! 🙂
It always amazes me when I read that some authors wrote their first book very young. This reinforces my belief that I am not meant to be a writer. I will sit for hours reading and feel great. Tell me I have to write an essay and I cannot sleep for days.
This is another book I put on my TBR pile.
=) Some of us know from the time we’re kids…other authors don’t start writing until retirement. Regardless, readers are the best!! (And for the record, I hate essays too. They’re too SHORT, LOL)
I agree with Roseanna. Readers are the best! 😀 We appreciate you joining us, Sonnetta. Good luck to you!
Can’t wait to read this one. Thanks for the chance to win.
Good luck, Brenda!
Hope you get to read and enjoy it soon, Brenda! 😉 It looks amazing!!
Thanks for your word of encouragement about writing (though I shall apply elsewhere as well, such as to art). It can be easy to fall into the “not good enough” trap by comparing one’s work to others’, when in fact, as you say, God has a unique plan for each of us! Now to remember that in my heart as well as my head . . .
You’re so right, Rachael. Her words definitely apply to other areas of our lives. If only our hearts could rest in that truth more. I’m with you there! 😉 Have a blessed week!
I love historical fiction. This books sounds like it’s close to your heart since you never lost faith in it. Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
Yay! Another historical fiction fan! 😉 I’m glad you could stop by, Mallory! Good luck in the giveaway.
I love the perserverance you had in bringing this book to life!
To answer the question in the giveaway widget:
It’s hard to decide what I love most about fall. Having living in Alaska prior to living in Arkansas, I’ll have to go with the cooler temperatures. (Pulling out my flannel jammies, reading by the fire, the smells of apples and pumpkin spice beverages, ahh…what’s not to love?)
Pumpkin spice!!! I adore fall foods–and living in the mountains, I get to enjoy the variety of colors. Gorgeous. =) And thank you!
Roseanna is an inspiration for writers everywhere, that’s for sure! 🙂 I’m so glad you could join us, Amanda. Everything you mentioned about fall… I love it too! It’s probably my favorite season. 😉 Good luck in the giveaway!
nice covers
Thanks! =) Not that I had anything to do with them, but I especially love these new ones.
I agree! They’re beautiful. 🙂
I love the leaves changing color and the warm days and cool nights!
Oh me tooooooo, Joanne! 😉 I love September, especially.
I love the story behind this book – how special that it has held on for so long and finally shared!!
Thank you for this give-away; it’s a beautiful book and one I would love to read. 🙂
I know, the story behind it makes me that much more eager to read it. 😉 Good luck in the giveaway, Raechel!
I love the advice that “you’ll never be your favorite author”. That is so true. I am looking forward to reading The Lost Heiress. Thanks for the interview and giveaway!
Definitely something writers should always keep in mind. 😉 Thanks for joining us, Loraine. Have a great week and good luck!
I would love to win a copy. I haven’t read Roseanna’s books yet.
Hi Emilee! Thanks for visiting. Hope you get to read this one soon! 😉
What an awesome story! It must be so exciting to see a dream realized that started as a teenage girl. Love it! I’m looking forward to reading it.
We’re glad you could join us, Melissa. Good luck in the drawing!
I did share on facebook…https://www.facebook.com/audrey.stewart.140/posts/877224772364937?pnref=story. Now, about fall…I hate that it leads to winter.
Thanks for sharing, Audrey! I agree with you about fall. I’m not such a fan of winter. 😉
I like your advice about not trying to be our favorite author. We are all different and have different paths. Thanks for the interview and chance to win!
Wise words for all of us. 😉 Glad you could stop by, Rebecca! Have a great day.
thank you for the contest and a chance to read your latest read!
Good luck to you, Veronica! 🙂
Hi, Savanna ~ Thank you for sharing this ‘new-to-me’ author with your readers. I enjoyed reading Roseanna’s response to your writing advice question. She has a positive outlook on being an author that is contagious! Best wishes, June
Hi June! I’m so glad you were encouraged by our chat with Roseanna. I was too! 😉 Have a blessed day!
Need to see if the libaray has your books. I love when the leaves change colors.
That’s one of my favorite things I look forward to with fall. 😉 Happy reading, Kim!
I love that this book has been in process for so long!
I also like to pretend my house will clean itself. =)
Don’t we all? 😉 haha! Thanks for stopping by, Katy. Good luck in the drawing!
What a great interview (and giveaway). I love the story description, and looking forward to reading it.
We’re glad you could join us. Good luck and happy reading! 😉
I love the Fall colors and being able to wear sweaters.
That sounds sooo nice, doesn’t it? 😉 Thanks for visiting, Dana!
Roseanna is a new author to me and I would love to read her book. Thanks for the great interview.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Merry! Good luck! 🙂
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
You’re exactly right! Great point, Joan. 😉 It’s always nice to have you stop in.
I haven’t read any of Roseanna’s books yet but after seeing the covers of some of them and reading several interviews, I think I need to do that. I really like historical romantic suspense.
My favorite things about fall are football and my birthday in October.
I hope you check out her books soon, Pam. I bet you’ll enjoy them! 😉 Fall is always fun, but a birthday makes it extra awesome!! 😉
I already have this wonderful book & started reading it a couple of days ago….being on her “street team” has it benefits 😉 So while I am not entering this one, I did want to read the author interview & leave a comment! I love that Roseanna had this story in her heart at an early age & it has grown with her over the years. I’m so happy that Bethany House picked it up and published it. They have some great taste in authors, in my opinion! 😉
Thanks for the wonderful interview you two! And blessings on your future endeavors Roseanna, can’t wait for your next book in this series. I am very much enjoying “The Lost Heiress” so far 🙂
Hi Trixi! It always brings a smile to my face to see you visit. Even when you’re not “entering in the giveaway” you always leave a kind word. Thank you for that! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book. I can’t wait to read it myself! “Street teams” are awesome, aren’t they? 😉 And I agree, Bethany House is great too! 🙂
Hi Roseanna!
I adored your Culper Ring series and am super excited to read this one! I have to confess a love for those random historical tidbits you mentioned – that was my favorite part of history class. Out of curiosity, what is one of the most interestingly off the wall things you’ve learned while researching?
Thanks for a chance to win a copy of The Lost Heiress!
Blessings,
Sarah
Hi Sarah! I’m so glad you could stop by. I’d love to hear Roseanna’s answer to your question too. 😉 Historical tidbits are always fun! Good luck in the giveaway.
I love the beautiful colors of the leaves and pumpkin everything!
I definitely plan on baking some pumpkin bread soon! 😉 Thanks for sharing, Merry!
Roseanna, perseverance does pay and it sounds like you have a wonderful book for readers. Thanks for sharing and thank you, Savanna, for offering us this giveaway!
So glad you could join us, Connie. I hope you get to read Roseanna’s book real soon. 😉
Sounds great, a little romance, a little intrigue, can’t go wrong with that!
Well said, Patty! 😉 Glad you could make it. Good luck in the drawing!
I loved the books I’ve read of White’s! Can’t wait to get my hands on her latest!
That’s awesome, Vanessa! Glad to hear it. Hope you get to read this one soon. 🙂
Although, I prefer spring as a favorite season, I welcome fall with the beginning of apple picking season. A local apple farm has the best selection of apples and they celebrate the season with flair. I enjoy picking up my favorite apples (honeycrisp, Jonagold and Gravenstein) while they are fresh for the picking.
That sounds wonderful, Terrill. I grew up on my family’s apple orchard and every fall we enjoyed making our own pressed apple cider. Delicious stuff! Thanks for visiting!
