Savanna: Welcome to The Engrafted Word, Sarah! Congratulations, first of all, on your recent release of In Perfect Time. I’m so excited to talk about this great new book! 🙂
Many readers enjoy picking their favorite quotes from your novels. Do YOU have a particular favorite quote from In Perfect Time that you can share with us?
Sarah: I like this bit where Kay is thinking about Roger:
“The man never stopped moving, and she liked that, liked the colorful way he told a story, his down-to-earth wisdom, even liked his lack of attraction to her. He kept his eyes on hers, his hands to himself. Once that would have bugged her, but now it made her feel safe, special, as if she were good enough not to make a pass at. And it completely unraveled her inside.”
Savanna: I loved that part! I really enjoyed getting to know both Kay and Roger in this story and I know other readers will too. 😉
What is something that makes Kay Jobson unique from the other two leading ladies from your Wings of the Nightingale series?
Sarah: Each of the nightingales couldn’t be more different—shy and thoughtful Mellie, sweet and social Georgie, and . . . Kay. Kay Jobson is bold, sophisticated, and flirtatious, but this bold façade hides deep hurts. She keeps her life and her emotions in tight control, so she doesn’t reveal herself even to her closest friends. As life shows her she never had control in the first place, her façade crumbles—and healing can begin.
Savanna: It’s clear to see that history is very important to you. Can you name a historical figure you would have enjoyed getting to meet in person and have lunch with?
Sarah: I’d like to have met Winston Churchill. The man was obviously a central historical figure, brilliant, and incredibly witty.
Savanna: Your website mentions you also do lots of speaking engagements. What has been one of your favorite workshops you’ve presented and why?
Sarah: It’s hard to choose—each workshop or speaking engagement has its own charms. Last month I spoke at the Greensburg-Hempfield Area Library in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, while I was visiting my parents. The turnout was excellent—and only half of them were my mom’s friends!—and very engaged and interesting people. It was fun for me too since my parents, husband, and youngest son were there! That was a first for me.
Savanna: How fun! I would love to attend one of your classes someday! 😉
I also read on your lovely website how much you value writers’ conferences. Can you share with us a special memory from your very first conference?
Sarah: My very first conference was a small local one, but the faculty included Cecil Murphey, Lee Roddy, and Lin Johnson—I didn’t even know how wonderful that was at the time, but I learned so much that day. My favorite memory was walking up to the book table and asking for a book to tell me how to get published. After all, I had completed a novel and even edited it! The lady at the table asked me if it was my first conference. I said yes, and where is a book on getting published? She gently pointed out Self-Editing for Fiction Writers. I didn’t think I needed that—I got a “5” on the AP English test—but I humored her and picked it up along with the book on publication. Guess which book I really needed? Guess which book revolutionized my writing and showed me I wasn’t ready for publication? That was in 2001. My first novel was published in 2010.
Savanna: The road to publication is quite a journey, isn’t it? Thanks for sharing with us today, Sarah! Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share?
Sarah: I’ve begun work on my next series, Waves of Freedom, which follows three American naval officers based in Boston during World War II. The first novel, Through Waters Deep, was just turned in to my editor and is scheduled to release next summer.
Savanna: Ohhh, that sounds good! 😉 Can’t wait to see where you stories go from here, Sarah.

There are so many amazing stories, isn’t there, Sara? We appreciate you stopping in for a visit. Good luck in the giveaway with your 3 entries. 😉
Sarah is one of my must-read authors. She’s a masterful storyteller! Her characters are some of the most well crafted I’ve ever “met.” I can still remember all five couples from her previous books and what each of the ten characters was like, which, with my inability to recall stories or movies, is saying something. The depth Sarah pours into each character is remarkable. Since I’m a writer, I read her stories not only for enjoyment but also to study how it is she does what she does. I’m halfway through In Perfect Time and am loving Roger and Kay, feeling for them and rooting for them to learn the lessons they need to learn so they can enjoy their HEA.
Hi Keli!! I’m so glad you stopped in for a visit. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I agree, I’ve learned a lot myself reading Sarah’s books. Each one is so full! Have a blessed day, my friend, and good luck in the giveaway. 😉
Thanks for the wonderful interview, Sarah and Savanna!!
I loved getting to learn more about Sarah’s writing journey and would love to read “In Perfect time”!! I know writing brings joy to it’s authors, but I’m learning just how much work, time, and patience is required – it’s surprising that we have so many wonderful Christian books on the market, but I’ve read numerous times that most books come from the love of, and necessity to write, inspiration from God, and a desire to inspire others – and seldom for monetary reasons. I want to thank all Christian authors for their hard work and desire to use their writing gift for God and the inspiration of others, and for the joy and inspiration their books have brought me.
I didn’t realize I was so far behind – the only one of Sarah’s books I have is the first, “A Distant Melody!! Looks like I have a lot of enjoyable, inspiring reading ahead of me!! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!!

Hi Dear Bonnie! Thank you so much for sharing with us. You said it just right. It’s a beautiful thing to see the authors who inspire us have such humble and serving hearts.
