Welcome to the blog, Susan. I am so delighted to have you join us today to celebrate your new release, A Haven for Her Heart.
Thank you so much! I’m thrilled to be invited back!
Which character from A Haven for Her Heart would you say you’re most excited for the readers to meet? And why?
It would have to be my heroine, Olivia Rosetti. The only daughter of an Italian immigrant family, she is disowned by her father when she becomes pregnant. Worse still, she is arrested and sent to a women’s reformatory, and eventually her child his taken from her and put up for adoption. The story begins when Olivia is released from prison. Her struggle to regain respectability, while trying to help other women in her situation, highlights her courageous and compassionate nature.
She sounds like an inspiring heroine. I can’t wait to meet her!
What will you remember most about writing this book?
I’ll remember how excited I was when I first started the Prologue. My enthusiasm for writing returned with this story, and it just seemed to flow out of me. For a writer, that’s a true gift!
Yes, that enthusiasm is a wonderful feeling! I love to hear that this book restored that for you.
Describe your favorite place to write. What’s your ideal setting for inspiration?
Apparently, it is the kitchen table!! I always wanted my own office, and last year when my daughter moved out for the first time, I used her old room as my office. But for some reason, I don’t spend a lot of time there, preferring instead to be at the kitchen table beside my bay window. I think it’s because I feel too isolated on the second floor alone.
I totally get that! My “office” is in the living room right now. It’s noisy at times, but I enjoy having my family near. 🙂
Which heroine from a book would you like to be? Why?
I can’t really think of an answer, so I’ll say Cinderella. LOL. Who wouldn’t want a fairy godmother and a rich, handsome Prince to rescue you from a life of drudgery and give you everything you wanted? (Wink).
Definitely a worthy choice! 🙂
What’s one of your favorite things about being an author?
I love creating new stories with great new characters, and of course, helping them find true love. My second favorite thing is seeing my book covers for the first time! That is always a thrill!
And your books covers are so lovely!
Is there anything else you’d like to add? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
I’ve just finished revisions to Book 2 in the Redemption’s Light series, called “To Find Her Place”. This book will be out next summer, and the heroine is Jane Linder, an employee of the Children’s Aid Society and a minor character in A Haven for Her Heart. I’m also working on a Christmas novella (that might not be out by this Christmas) but I’m hoping to be able to offer this as a free gift for my newsletter subscribers. Fingers crossed!
That sounds wonderful! We’ll be watching for them. Thanks so much for joining us today, Sue!

I would probably be Anne of Green Gables or Emily of New Moon.
I love Anne of Green Gables! It was one of my favorites as a child!
Susan
Love it, Elizabeth! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Anne of Green Gables
Yes! Love Anne! Thanks for sharing, Melanie. Good luck in the drawing.
Interesting question – possibly Christy!
Ohhh, great choice, Cathy! Love Christy!
I’ll go back to my childhood, many many moons ago, I remember how I loved Clara Barton. To this day I admire nurses as I don’t think I could handle being a one, I have a ‘weak stomach’ and sometimes even seeing the shape some of their patients are bring tears to my eyes.

I couldn’t be a nurse either! I have great admiration for the people who can!
Susan
I totally agree, Wendy. I sooo admire those who can nurse, but I don’t think it’s something I could handle personally. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the fun interview, Savanna and Susan. I’m looking forward to reading this book from one of my favorite authors!
Thanks so much, Winnie! Your support means the world!
Susan
We’re so glad you could join us, Winnie! Good luck in the drawing. Hope you get to read Susan’s new book soon. 🙂
Anne of Green Gables.
Marilyn
Great choice, Marilyn. She’s a favorite of many!
I’d like to be Queen Susan from Chronicles of Narnia.
Oh I love your choice, Caryl! 🙂
I’m also going to go with Anne of Green Gables. 🙂
I don’t blame you… we all love her! 🙂
Wow, Anne of Green Gables is so popular! A great character to be sure. Do you guys get the show “ANNE with an E”? It’s a recent version of Anne of Green Gables and the acting is wonderful!
Caryl, I think Queen Susan has a lovely ring to it!! LOL.
Susan
I watched the first season of Anne with an E…. I agree, the acting was great!
What a horrible thing to happen to a young girl! I would admire her compassion in trying to help other girls in the same situation.
Thanks for visiting, Vivian. Hope you get to read Susan’s book soon!
This is from an old book, but I’d like to be Jessica from Secrets by Robin Jones Gunn.
I’ve not read that book, Ellie, but I do love Robin Jones Gunn and the books of hers I have read. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
